New Zealand Government Web Guidelines

The New Zealand government has committed to making all central government websites accessible by January 2006. In order to help agencies toward achieving this goal the SSC has produced the New Zealand Government Web Guidelines, also known as the e-GIF Web Guidelines. The current version of these guidelines is 2.1 and was last revised in February of 2004.

The Web Guidelines cover a wide range of requirements for government websites including web strategy, content, content delivery, information exchange and commercial arrangements. It also requires compliance with at least the priority 1 checkpoints of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Audit Survey of Government Websites' Accessibility

The MSD, ODI and the SSC have jointly issued an RFP for an Audit Survey of Government Websites' Accessibility (MSD 2006/946) in August of 2006. This audit survey is to check the accessibility and compliance of 159 government websites against the New Zealand Government Web Guidelines and is set to be completed by December 2006.

Pre-audit Gap Analysis

Be ready for the audit survey by getting a pre-audit gap analysis of your site's compliance. This will allow you to identify any key areas which still need to be addressed for compliance with the e-GIF web guidelines as well as against the priority 1 checkpoints of the WCAG

.

e-GIF Audit

For a more thorough check of your site's compliance we can do a complete audit of your site against the e-GIF web guidelines as well as against the level of the WCAG you would like to achieve.

The e-GIF Audit consists of the following:

  • An initial consultation to determine the scope of the audit
  • A manual audit of the website against the e-GIF web guidelines
  • A manual audit of the website against the WCAG guidelines
  • A comprehensive report detailing any areas of non-compliance, including suggestions for how to fix these problems

Fixing the problems

If you do not have the resources or skills available to fix the problems identified during the gap analysis or the comprehensive e-GIF Audit then we can introduce you to our network of partners with the necessary skills in implementing accessible websites including those sites implemented using Lotus Domino.
